he assumed increasing levels of management responsibility in Gulf Canada. As Manager Reserve Additions, he was responsible for all exploration, exploitation and development operations throughout Western Canada from 1980 to 1983 and 1991 to 1995, specifically in the areas of geology, geophysics, land, drilling and completions.
Frontier experience was gained as Manager Frontiers from 1983 to 1988. Areas of responsibility included the Mackenzie Delta, Beaufort Sea, Arctic Islands and East Coast exploration and development. From 1988 to 1991, Mr Fischer served as Manager, International Development, responsible for exploitation and production in Indonesia, Egypt, and Australia offshore. In 1995 Mr Fischer became Director, Mergers and Acquisitions and was involved in over $2.2 billion of corporate and property acquisitions and divestitures.

In late 1996 Mr. Fischer formed his own consulting firm to continue mergers and acquisitions activities, and specialized in providing senior management and operating services to the petroleum industry. He acted as both an executive management advisor to several companies and fulfilled the Chief Operating Officer role for three companies on a contract basis. In 1998, Mr. Fischer joined forces with Robert Niven to form Niven Fischer Energy Management Inc.

Over his career Mr. Fischer has served as a director of over 18 junior oil and gas companies and numerous industry associations. He has also been actively involved in the community, particularly in the field of sports. Mr. Fischer served as President of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Ski Association and during the 1988 Winter Olympics was Alpine Chairman responsible for all alpine events. He subsequently served as Chairman of the Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA), as well as director and member of several sports and community associations. Mr. Fischer is a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.

Mr. Fischer continues to provide business development services to Niven Fischer as Principal Emeritus, Business Development.  In addition, Mr. Fischer provides a broad range of advisory services related to acquisitions, divestments, exploration, exploitation, development, operations and finance.

Consulting Engineers Ltd., designers and builders of natural gas processing plants and production facilities.In 1980 he returned to the exploration and production side of the industry and over the next ten years served in the position of President of three public oil and gas companies; Bralorne Resources Limited, a diversified international exploration, service, manufacturing and supply company, Sagebrush Resources Inc. and Esprit Resources Inc., both junior exploration and development companies. In 1990 he founded Niven Engineering Corporation, a company that provided specialized services in the field of production engineering and operations management. Niven Engineering served as a foundation for Niven Fischer, which continues to provide many of the same services as the former company.

In addition to his engineering and management background in the domestic oil and gas industry Mr. Niven has worked extensively in international operations in countries which include Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Far East Asia. He has furthermore been actively involved on several oilfield development projects in Russia, including serving as President of CanBaikal Resources Ltd., and played a principal role in negotiating the first Russian oil and gas exploration and development license awarded to a western oil company.

Mr. Niven has served as a director of over 20 companies, industry associations and community organizations. Of particular note, Mr. Niven was a principal organizer of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games where he served as President of the Olympic Bid Committee and Vice Chairman of the XV Olympic Winter Games Organizing Committee (OCO ’88). Mr. Niven is a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.

Although Mr. Niven retired in 2010, as Principal Emeritus he continues to provide advice and is available as a resource for Niven Fischer.
